Flood Relief Race – Blazing Saddles 3hr Enduro

Two posts in less than a week is definitely a record for me, but with the Dirt Riders 3hr enduro being held over the weekend a race/ride report is required. With the race not starting till 4pm on Saturday, it was nice change being able to sleep in and enjoy the morning before venturing out to Upper Beaconsfield. In a contrast to weather which has wrecked havoc across Victoria in recent weeks, riders where greeted to near perfect conditions with not a puddle in sight. With a typical Beaconsfield course including lots of sharp up an down, roots and rocks it was set to be a tough three hours in the saddle. The race begun with me lining up next to fellow Fitzroy Revolution rider Sean theman Hurley.  It was a fast paced start as expected with a group of 5 or so rider quickly establishing a gap over the field. My race was alot of fun, not overly fast but enjoyed it all and only had a few nears misses in the rock garden. Three hours later and with some very tender legs, my first race of 2011 was done. Back in the land of Aus

After a 7 weeks travelling around the regions of South America, with not a bike to be seen, I have returned to Australia with a new found motivation for the 2011 season and a few extra kgs to go with it. Getting back into training after such a long time of nothing has been a bit of a shock to the  system, with the legs both feeling pretty tender right now after a few days back on the bike. Some serious training will be required in the next few weeks, with an entry secured into the fast approaching Otway Odyssey. Other races on the cards in the upcoming months include the GMBC 6hr, Bike Buller as well as the Easter 24hr up in Canberra.

Chase the Sun Round 3

I think the sun may have made a brief appearance during the day, but round 3 of the Chase the Sun series at Lysterfield was pretty much a cold and muddy affair.  Weather aside the race was a blast with over 400 entries the series is getting bigger and bigger every year. The Fitzroy revolution had a good set up going with Cam having managed to score the Marquee for the race, and what a good day to have it. With Cam racing in the Male three’s and me (Scott) attempting to go solo it was going to be along 7hrs ahead of us. Racing begun under almost sunny sky’s with Cam and I lining up next to each other, both standing out a bit in the pack on our bigger wheels. The start was pretty hectic with riders going all over the place trying to find a line that would avoid some of the mud. The course for the day was probably a good 60 percent fire-road so was looking like it might become a bit more like a road race than a mtb. With the clear sky quickly disappearing before one lap was even completed the course soon became a … Continue reading
